The plight of the put upon largest religious group in America.

– by Kid Bucket-

Recently, I have been following some of the more… outspoken… evangelical Christians on twitter and noticed something very interesting. The general idea is they think they should be allowed to say whatever they want, and if anyone tries to shut them up, then their first amendment rights are being infringed upon. They claim that the “gaystapo” gets to infringe on their rights while getting away with whatever they want because they have magical gay powers that apparently are given to them at monthly meetings or something. What these people seem not to understand though is that they have no standing whining about their rights being infringed upon—if the majority of America wants them to shut up they have the right to shut them up. It’s the GOVERNMENT that can’t shut anyone up.

A lot of this boils down to an interesting theme that has popped up recently, the “Put-Upon Christian“.

When an animal feels it is under attack it will do everything in its power to not die, obviously, but the same thing is happening in American politics. America is leaving the religious right’s evangelical base behind, and in response they are doing everything in their power to sway legislation back to their direction. Money and religion have always gone hand in hand—a quick look at pictures of the Vatican can prove that—but what’s troubling is how much of that money is then being cycled back into politics.

In the 2010 documentary “8: The Mormon Proposition”, it was made crystal clear how far churches are willing to go to sway elections in their favor, even if they have to use legal loopholes to do so.

Actually, it was evil genius to the extreme.

People outside the state of California weren’t legally allowed to donate to the election so what the leaders of the Mormon church did was tell the Mormons in California that if they didn’t give a set amount of money, based on their yearly income, to the campaign against gay marriage in California they would be excommunicated.

What. The. Fuck.

This is a prime example of the argument “It’s not the religion, per se, that is the problem. It’s the people who lead and are in it.” But what’s funny about that argument is that these people probably realized they were being extorted but because the threat of never getting into heaven was so overwhelming they were forced to give money to something they might not have even agreed with. It’s the fucking people all right, the people who are so afraid of being left behind that they are pulling out all the stops to pander to a group of people who, unjustifiably, are complaining about being put upon. Most recently, a Catholic adoption agency was receiving state money while also discriminating against gay couples wanting to adopt. When people finally realized, sadly after way too long, that it was wrong, the Catholic agency decided to take the high road.

And by the high road I mean they basically took their ball and went home, complaining that now they just weren’t going to help anyone adopt children. Fuck, it’s just so damn hard to be a Christian.

A Christmas tree is now being called a Holiday Tree? GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED PLANNED PARENTHOOD IS KILLING BABIES AND MAKING 5 YEAR OLDS LEARN ABOUT CONDOMS AND BUTT SEX!

The Ten Commandments were taken out of a state courthouse? CHRISTIANS IN NORTH DAKOTA GET TO HELP DECIDE IF GAYS IN ANY OTHER STATE CAN GET MARRIED!

And people say the atheists are trying to sway America?

Actually, I bet it’s the atheist Muslims who want to enact secular sharia on all Americans.
